The Botanical Garden Visitor Education Center was constructed to provide a facility for education and conservation of nature, as well as to demonstrate the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces through sustainable design. Features include geothermal HVAC systems, a photovoltaic array, permeable parking lot pavers, and bio retention basins.
This facility was the first LEED™ Platinum NC building, public museum, and outreach center and on a UNC campus.
Covered breezeways connect each of the 3 buildings and house an auditorium, a seminar room, classrooms, meeting, administration, and event spaces, while centered around a world-class garden.
